How do I apply for a provisional licence? Simply complete a driving licence application form (D1) available from most post offices. |
What are the theory and hazard perception tests? They both have to be passed before your practical test. The theory test is a multiple choice examination of fifty questions on general driving skills, road signs and legalities. The hazard perception test is a series of video clips designed to test your reactions to real life driving situations. There is a test centre for this in most towns. |
How do I book my theory test? You can book online at www.direct.gov.uk/drivingtest or by phone on 0300 200 1122. You will need your provisional licence and a credit/debit card. |
Can I start driving lessons before I have passed my theory test? Yes, it's useful to have a few lessons prior to applying for the theory test. Your instructor will be able to give you some good advice and assistance on studying to pass. |
How many lessons will I need before my practical test? All our pupils learn at different speeds. Only when both you and we are confident will you be entered for your test. |
What are "show me tell me" questions? At the start of your practical test the examiner will ask you a couple of questions about how you can keep up with the maintenance of your car. Your instructor will teach this before the test. |
Who is allowed to teach me? Anybody who is at least 21 years old and have held a full EU driving licence for at least 3 years can supervise your private practice. It is ILLEGAL for anybody else other than a DSA registered driving instructor to charge money for lessons. |
